Description
She’s not a Brooke Shields or a Marie Osmond. She is just an average Mother. Author Angela Tompkins invites you to come along with her as she recounts her bizarre, scary and very real story about the events that preceded her hospitalization and two-week “vacation” in a psych ward for postpartum psychosis—and the afterwards as she worked to assume her role as Mother again. Angela offers you a look inside of the head of a woman that took a run through the streets of insanity after the birth of her second child.

This book was recommended to me because I suffered from postpartum anxiety following the birth of my second child. Stories like this need to be shared, read, and talked about... there are so many mothers who suffer silently because they fear what society will think of them, even though it is not their fault and support is so important for healing and recovery. While my experience was not the same as Angela's, I can relate in that I'm positive she will carry it with her for the rest of her life, just like I carry mine. Even when all ends well, there is an imprint. I'm glad that Angela chose to share hers in the form of this book. While I am familiar with postpartum anxiety, postpartum psychosis has always been mysterious to me. This book taught me a lot. I'm sure it was healing to write, and it was healing to read.
