I purchased these shoes for trail running after doing extensive research.I'm a 120 lb male, athletic build who over pronates.Size 9.5 feet, normal width. My right arch is a bit flatter and my right foot pronates a bit more than my left.I used to wear Asics exclusively until they started making their shoes so narrow it was ridiculous. So, I stopped buying them and switched to Brooks for my last 4 pairs of running shoes, all Brooks Adrenaline ASRs.Since Brooks stopped the ASR line with ASR 14. and that since the newer GTS shoes they make are a joke, i had to find a new shoe. Luckily Asics started making their shoes a bit wider which allowed me to fit into the ASICS GEL Trabuco 9s.Fit:Snug, but not tight. Toebox is roomier than previous Trabuco models which were horribly narrow. That said, the toe box is still more pointy and arrow-head-like. the toe box is a bit longer than the Brooks ASR and GTSs which carry about the same last shape. The stronger angle in the toe box bends the big toe towards the middle of the foot- pretty much all running shoes scrunch up the toes like this -WHY?? So, it's an issue will all shoes but the effect is more pronounced in these shoes but not so much where it is painful. This does however cause big toe misalignment which affects the arch motion and ankle rotation - which exasperates pronation.Besides pronating, i have text book feet. My heels are not narrow but slip around in the heel cup a little. This is more noticeable on variable ground. Tying the laces to lock down the foot helps a little but the laces are not long enough to use all the eyelets-WHY?!Since these shoes are meant to be stability shoes, they should have more arch support. To get this, you'd need to buy a special insole. The upper:Nicely made even if the "Fabric" that makes up the upper looks cheap, it feels pretty good if a tad warm. the sides of the shoe have the ASiCS logo and some structural "Supports" these are deceptive. They have absolutely no structural integrity what so ever. You may as well stretch chewing gum or scotch tape on your shoe. they look pretty and ......... that's kinda it. Okay- they do offer some support but it is so negligible it hardly counts. of this I was very disapointed. the Trabuco 10s have even less of this flimsy nothing material. the toe bumper is nice and in fact one solid piece. In the Trabuco 10s, it's been replaced by the same kind of stuff that lines the sides, ie chewing gum and would have offered no toe protection - WHY Asics? That is part of the reason I got the Trabuco 9s and not the 10s since effectively have no toe protection. The traction: Good and grippy but since the heel slips around it makes the ride a bit wiggly which almost defeats the traction. Again, using all the eyelets would be a possible solution- but the laces are too short.Stability/ Motion control:For my left foot which is closer to "normal" it works okay. My right foot, the one that pronates more, was un happy. While the shoe has features to dissuade pronation, it does not have features to encourage supination. To do so, it would need better arch support, be less tight, cup the heel better and have a bit less mid and out sole fare, lower heel drop and bit more cushion on the lateral side -- Hmm that all sounds like a different shoe entirely. So, unless you have wide heels, normal arches and narrow fore-feet with long toes, these shoes may be abit off for you. Pronators may need to buy longer laces and more supportive insoles. Folks with more neutral feet will like these shoes much more but you may still get heel slippage. That said, the some is a little adaptable and while not quite what I'd like, over the Trabuco 9s are not too bad. I'll run in them for now but will keep an eye out for Brooks to improve their line up again. This is the 2nd pair of these I bought for my 14yr old son to run cross country in for his high school. He absolutely loves them! Very comfortable, fit him perfect, and great grip on the muddy trails. He has a neutral pronation (lucky him) so they fit his running gait perfectly. He never complains about foot, toe, ankle, or leg discomfort that sometimes comes from improperly fitted shoes. He has put on average 30-35 miles a week on them for the past 3 months and has never complained at all. They are very well made and he usually outgrows them before they start wearing out and show signs of sole compression. We are both huge fans of ASICS, I use them exclusively for running both roads and trails, and they never disappoint. All around great shoes. Even play golf with them. The shoes are comfortable and were a great fit. So far no issues quality wise or else. Would buy again.Great fit for hiking and climbing. Strong and durable. I’ve been buying Asics for years and I’ll be buying more in the future.I have had other ASICS for trial running before but unfortunately, I felt these were not as good as the others. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great shoe but it lacked the same support in the upper shoe that I had on past ASICS. The trails I run are fairly technical and I feel that my foot moves inside more than I prefer. I buy neutral shoe styles, same width, and size, so I am not sure what made these different? Aside from this negative, it's still a nice shoe. The pattern on the sole of the shoe was not what I was expecting.Light and comfortable
