Good running shoes for the first 600-800 km. And after that range, they are still looking good. Use them for daily walks. My husband has special shoe needs due to a severe foot injury in his right heel (surgically reconstructed calcaneus held together with metal plates, screws, etc) that causes constant pain. He needs shoes that provide both a lot of cushion in the heel area and structured heel support, and he also needs new shoes at least every 6 months. The Asics Gel-Kayano (plus SmartFeet inserts) is by far the best shoe for his needs, and has been his go-to everyday shoe for years.Unfortunately, the Gel-Kayano 23 model (and earlier models) came in pretty hideous colors for everyday wear. He's a professor, so he needs to look professional at work, and the 23 model didn't have a single option that worked well for that. The least obtrusive seemed to be the silver and blue model, and they aren't exactly high fashion--the main fabric is shiny silver with bright blue laces and reflective-shiny blue bands all over it. Imagine those shoes with chinos, a nice shirt, and a tweed jacket. It looked ridiculous, especially given that his students and many of his colleagues did not know about his injury. He also felt a bit self conscious wearing those shoes when we went to nice restaurants or other fancy events where all the other men were wearing dress shoes. In contrast, we are so happy with the new styles available with the Gel-Kayano 24! The fit, comfort, and support are the same excellent quality that he has come to count on from Asics Gel-Kayano, and this time they seem to have hired a better designer, because there are a few options that actually look good too! We got the black/charcoal, and they look great!! The matte finish is a nice touch. They are classy & unobtrusive enough for him to wear to work every day & still look very professional. If you have heel pain, especially from a calcaneus injury, I cannot recommend these shoes enough. They are wonderful for my husband's day-to-day pain management. And instead of being stressed out every 6 months hoping to find a decent pair of shoes, we just re-order these and are good to go. If you have severe pain or a disability, simple things like shoe shopping are not so simple--your entire quality of life rides on it. I highly recommend Gel-Kayanos for anyone who needs extra heel support & cushion, especially now that the 24s have the improved color options.Lastly, I have a message for the Asics design people: If you have anyone reading these reviews, please learn from this! I'm sure runners are fine with the bright, shiny colors, because maybe it makes them feel safe, and either way, they only have to wear them for like an hour a day. But not everyone who buys these shoes is buying them for athletic purposes. Please always make sure to provide a more subtle, sober, professional option for those with foot injuries etc. who need your shoes for everyday wear. You have finally done this with the Gel-Kayano 24--please keep it up with future models! Thank you!!I don't write many reviews but I have to for this product. I have been running for over 20 years (due to military). I have worn Asics for at least 15 years of that time. I have used everything from GT 1000- Nimbus, after the last change to the Nimbus I could not use them anymore. I have back, knee, ankle and feet problems from wear and tear. This is my first experience with Kayano, and I will say I have never felt so good after a run. They arrived today, right as I was heading out the door for my regularly scheduled 5-6 mile Sunday run when they arrived. At first I thought to not dare put these on without wearing them for a few days and few shorter runs first. Then I said "this has to be fate". I laced then up walked around the house for a few and hit the road. I will say at first there was a little sliding in the heel when I first tried them on, but decided to head out anyway as everything else fit and felt good. The worst case scenario would be to turn around early if the heel rubbing didn't stop (read in a review that the heel rubbing would stop).I ended up doing all 6 miles and felt as though I could of done more. I was wearing the Asics GT-2000 over the last 8 months and after 4 miles I was ready to tear my shoes off. After this run I do not have foot cramps or pains, my legs feel good, no problems in my hips or knees. My back is tight but, I did deadlifts yesterday so I sore before I even started running. I know I have only been 6 miles in these but, straight out of the box they feel great. Oh the heel slide did stop after about a mile into the run. I hope this helps those who are looking for a stability shoe that can help with those issues that keep us from logging additional miles.I did move up a 1/2 as usual with Asics brand but D width felt great.I purchased these for my husband who runs about 3 miles every other day. He is approx. 215# and has an ongoing case of Plantar Fasciitis. He runs on a dirt track as recommended by his podiatrist and generally wears Saucony shoes but lately even running on dirt/stone dust track he's been having problems. We thought it might be time he switched shoe brands and I did the research. The ASICS Mens Gel-Kayano 24 Running Shoe was on 3 of the "Best Runners for Plantar Fasciitis" lists I found on the web. Along with his orthotics, I though this was a sure thing. He was excited to get them and wanted to love these shoes. Unfortunately, I believe the Gel Kayano *previous* versions may have been great for Plantars, but this version is NOT.The sizing was spot on for him, he found the uppers to be very comfortable, he loved the responsiveness, breathability and flexibility of the shoe (he runs midfoot strike as recommended by his therapist) and the seemingly ultra light weight compared to the various Saucony's he's been wearing for years. But after 1 mile, he'd had enough. These shoes, touted as 'cushiony and energizing' were anything but, especially for a person with plantars. On a dirt/stonedust track he could feel the pounding on his feet.I gave these 4 stars (subtracted 1 star because they are not "cushiony" as described) because if you are not suffering foot injuries or have Plantars, this is a great shoe for those who like a lightweight shoe and appreciate that 'road feel' contact when they run but do not expect much in the way of cushiony soles. If you have injuries or are looking for a well-cushioned sole on your runners, look elsewhere.Purchased these as a replacement for my Kayano 23 which they have stopped making.I have run over 1000 miles in several pairs of 23s without any issues. From the outset I found the 24s harder (less cushioned) and generally less forgiving. My knees have become constantly painful when running since using these - not entirely due to the shoes I’m sure but they were fine before. They are light weight and comfortable as you’d expect but not as good as 23s.Overall I’m disappointed and would go back to the 23s in a heartbeat.Probably absolutely fine but the non ASICS box and seemingly used soles made me have question marks so I sent them back. They were cheaper than usual so this would explain this and I would probably have kept them if there was an explanation that this was because someone had tried them previously. Being prone to injury I don’t want to take the risk on running trainers. Great response from amazon however in terms of taking them back. Would be aware discounted shoes may not be pristine- if you are less fussy however could well be worth a punt. My gel Kayano 23s allowed me to run a marathon nicely so these are a great series of shoes. For a long time now i have been a user of the Nike Lunarglide which seen me through 4 marathons. On the advice of someone in a running shop that evaluated my running style i decided to make the change to Asics Gel-Keyano. It has been a disaster. When walking around in the store they seemed fine but when i purchased on Amazon and started running with them the issues began. The runner doesn't fit well and my heel is moving around a bit. They feel heavy but the worst flaw is there was a slight lumpy feeling at the top of the sole near the toes and after a long run it caused metatarsalgia in boot feet. I had my 5th marathon recently in Reykjavik and had to abandon these runners and revert to the old ones. My return date on these has now past but these are already gathering dust. Final point is they are so expensive. Tips to any runners out there1. Never listen to people in running shops2. Don't buy these runnersI got these for a period when I couldn't cycle, and was surprised how much they encouraged me to jog. They just make you feel like running! Not waterproof (they don't claim to be afaik), but just feel snug & bouncy.Received almost 2yr old product hence returning. Asics gel/foam hardens and hence no use. Manufacture date was 10/2017.
